Cagliari is the most important city of Sardinia, with a metropolitan area of about half a million inhabitants. The capital of the island has a soul consisting of a millenary history, culture, nature, beach tourism and night life, an attractive mix that fascinates the visitor, charmed by the views of Castello, the ramparts and the Roman remains, the Sardinian sea, as well as by the dynamism of a surprisingly lively city.

Time Zone – The official time in Cagliari is the UTC/GMT +1 hour.
Climate – the climate is Mediterranean, with mild, rainy winters and hot, sunny summers. The daily average temperature ranges from about 10 °C (50 °F) in January and February to about 25 °C (77 °F) in July and August
Electric Current – Italian earthed plugs and sockets are defined by the standard CEI 23-50 which superseded CEI 23-16. This includes two models rated at 10 A and 16 A that differ in contact diameter and spacing. Both are symmetrical, allowing the line and neutral contacts to be inserted in either direction.

How to Get to Cagliari
By Air
Cagliari is connected to the most important european cities thanks to the Elmas – Mario Mameli international airport. A shuttle bus connects the airport to the city center in Piazza Matteotti, situated between the port and the train station. There is also a train from the airport to the station, in the center of the town. Moreover, also taxis and rent-a-car services connect the airport to downtown.
Getting Around Cagliari
Moving along in Cagliari is quite easy, the city centre can be easily visited by foot. However, there are means of transport of different type: tourist trains, open buses for a sightseeing tour and cabs.
It is possible to move through the hinterland of Cagliari, thanks to “metro” tramway lines as well as local buses, the latter, being particularly suggested to reach the most off-hand areas like Poetto littoral and Molentargius saltworks.
Metrocagliari – is the overground metropolitan train that connects the city centre to the main areas of the Cagliari hinterland
Bus – CTM bus routes cover the city and surrounding area.

Valid for unlimited rides on buses until midnight of the day it was first stamped. Price 3,30 €.
Tickets must be validated on the bus at the beginning of the journey.
Taxi – Cagliari’s taxis are safe and generally reliable. Just make sure that the meter is running before you set off. The starting rate is €3 (€5 on Sundays and public holidays, €5.50 between 22:00 and 06:00) with a per kilometre rate of €0.90, which goes up to €1.30 at night time or when driving out of town. Few taxi drivers speak English, so it’s a good idea to write down the address, or to call someone who can explain.
